TVA announced this morning that there were no metals above drinking water standards in samples taken Friday from the Tennessee River downstream from the ash spill at Widows Creek power plant.
“The samples taken on the Tennessee River meet primary drinking water standards for metals,” according to a Tennessee Valley Authority news release. “Downstream samples were consistent with upstream samples from the TVA facility.”
Two samples were taken on the river about 1,000 yards upstream and the other was taken about 1,000 yards downstream from the mouth of Widows Creek. A third sample was taken in the stilling pond on TVA property.
A sediment sample was taken from the bank between the pond and Widows Creek. Data from the solid material were well below levels considered hazardous, officials said.
EPA officials have said the hazardous classification is a determination intended to help regulators place materials in the correct kind of landfill, and saying the material is non-hazardous does not mean it is not a health concern.
TVA and EPA continue to sample the water independently, the news release states.

Got to ask, why is no one questioning the millions in bonus the big boys at TVA got, and why are customers being told they will have to pay for clean up of a FED controlled energy firm? IF fed funds used for Nukes, then fed funds for TV, ALSO why are we still seeing "fuel surcharged of 12% on top of the 10% they got, when FUEL PRICES DOWN FROM th3 $140 barrel they used to get reaise and now at $39 or so. Is it needed to pay bouus for the ones the messed it all up, why is NO ON FIRED. So MEDIA, Corker, Alexander, Wamp, Gov B and ALL in DC. what are the answers to above? Yep let's all howl about "union paid to much, but not a ward about TVA paid to much..,BY US?
