Chattanooga: EPB says fiber optic network moving fast

EPB announced today that it will bring its fiber optic-based video services to all of Chattanooga, East Ridge and Red Bank within the next year.

EPB President Harold DePriest said the city-owned utility is ahead of schedule and already has laid more than 1,000 miles of fiber optic lines.

EPB’s new services — billed as FiTV, Fi-Speed Internet and Fi Phone — should be connected to more than 100,000 homes and businesses within the next year, he said.

When EPB originally developed its plans for its fiber-to-home service, the utility expected to take three years to extend service throughout the three biggest cities served by EPB.

“We’re about a year and a half ahead of schedule and we will soon be coming to a neighborhood near you,” Mr. DePriest said during an announcement today.
