Chattanooga: Search under way for missing boaters

Chattanooga Fire Department personnel and other agencies are searching for two boaters who went missing after a boat overturned on the Tennessee River late Tuesday night.

A fire department official said a command post to assist in the search had been established at the boat ramp at the DuPont Recreation Complex. Various accounts indicate a boat with three occupants overturned sometime during the evening. Authorities say a father, his son and his son's friend were in the boat when it overturned. The father was able to swim to shore while the other two were swept away, according to reports.

The Chattanooga Fire Department’s rescue boat as well as crews from the Volunteer State Rescue Squad were in the water assisting in the search around 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Heavy rain and lightning this morning hampered the search as did rushing water from the flood gates due to heavy rain earlier this week.
