Instead, unleash freedom! Allow interstate and international competition for insurance, AND insurance alternatives, and drugs. Allow people and self-chosen groups, not just companies, the tax benefits of buying insurance. Allow prices to float freely, since they convey information and forcing different risks to pay the same premiums tells lies. (The devil is the father of lies.) The monks-and-nuns group will pay lower STD rates than the gay-bathhouse group? Right. Let people keep the money they save the system by NOT getting sick: medical savings accounts and the like. Let nurses, pharmacists, and anyone else compete with doctors--an M.D. has written than 80% of what he does for you a good friend could do--instead of raising prices artificially by creating an artificial monopoly by law.

We are witnessing a split in the GOP that is threatening to make the party irrelevant. The establishment republicans want Romney. Focus groups and internal polling suggest that he has the best chance against the President.

The more conservative base of the party - tea baggers if you will - do not want a moderate and who can blame them? The last two, Dole and McCain, both lost. Conservative republicans, like Reagan and Bush, both won.

The democrats went through their own 'fight for the soul of the party' back in 1980. Liberals considered President Carter too moderate and mounted strong primary opposition. The ensuing fight for the nomination made Carter a tepid choice that both democrats and independents had a tough time supporting. Reagan, a trained hollywood actor and former governor of California, waltzed to the white house. The democrats remained split through '84 and '88 until Clinton came along in 1992 and dragged the party back toward the center.

That's where the independent voter lives.

So go ahead Jones, BRP, Roger, and the rest of you, bash Obama all you like. You're clearly demonstrating that you can't support ANY republican 2012 presidential candidate. Your party is running a bunch of second rate politicians. If Obama did not pose such a formidable opponent, some top tier republicans would be running instead. How much will annual health care premiums increase to cover the cost of "FREE" birth control. Women should have access to birth control if they want it. But, apparently Obama thinks the majority of Americans are dumb enough to believe something of value is free.Why not just require the producers to give them away if they are going to be free? Politically, that the State is responsible for overseeing the well being of the nation, directing the economy as well as seeing to the security needs of the German (American) people. Their actual economic policy was actually an ad hoc affair. To gain power Hitler (Obama)would make deals with the Big Business leaders,(GE, George Soros, GM, Chrysler) assuring them of continued profits. He would further undermine the presumed socialist nature of the party. As long as private businesses supported the party/state goals, they tended to be left alone.

According to the IRS the top 1% pay about 40% of the total income taxes paid and 5% pay 65% or more. What not take the why not have them pay 80% plus allow all the Bush rates expire instead of only those over $250K? Are we all in this together or not? The man says we all have to sacrifice, give a little more of our hide to the big spenders. If 70% receive more from the government than they contributed that means 30% get less. Have you heard either party suggest cutting out all the subsidies and deductions then set a rate that everyone in the same tax bracket pays? Would that not be close to everyone paying their "fair share"? The same approach is applicable to business. No exceptions and pay 20% on all business income that exceeds business related expenditures.
