East Ridge has appointed local recreation director and sports enthusiast Marvin "Stump" Martin as director of its new Parks and Recreation Department, according to a city news release.
Martin will come to East Ridge from Rossville, where he has served as the director of Parks and Recreation since 2008.
Prior to that, Martin was a writer for the Chattanooga Times Free Press for 20 years.
He also has hosted regular sports talk shows on ESPN radio, served as managing editor for Tennessee Football Magazine, served as sports editor for the Catoosa County News and hosts the "Stump on Sports" TV show, according to the release.
Martin will be responsible for the overall management of the department's operations, personnel and budget, along with coordinating the management and operations of all athletic leagues, the release said.
Martin also will be responsible for recruiting and developing sporting events, concerts, sports clinics, trade shows, tournaments and other activities to be held at Camp Jordan Arena, Camp Jordan Park, the amphitheater and East Ridge Community Center.
