‘Jihad is our path’

So much for the free-thinking, moderate-driven revolution in Egypt.

What follows is a portion of a speech given in May — and recently translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute — by Mohammed Morsi, who has since been elected Egypt’s president in the wake of dictator Hosni Mubarak’s removal. Decide for yourself whether Morsi is an advocate of peace, religious liberty and representative government.

Morsi: “[In the 1920s, the Egyptians] said, ‘The constitution is our Koran.’ They wanted to show that the constitution is a great thing. But Imam Al-Banna, Allah’s mercy upon him, said to them, ‘No, the Koran is our constitution.’ The Koran was and will continue to be our constitution. The Koran will continue to be our constitution. The Koran is our constitution.”

Crowd: “The Koran is our constitution.”

Morsi: “The Prophet Muhammad is our leader.”

Crowd: “The Prophet Muhammad is our leader.”

Morsi: “Jihad is our path.”

Crowd: “Jihad is our path.”

Morsi: “And death for the sake of Allah is our most lofty aspiration.”

Crowd: “And death for the sake of Allah is our most lofty aspiration.”

Morsi: “Above all — Allah is our goal. … The shariah, then the shariah and finally, the shariah. This nation will enjoy blessing and revival only through the Islamic shariah. I take an oath before Allah and before you all that regardless of the actual text [of the constitution] … Allah willing, the text will truly reflect [the shariah], as will be agreed upon by the Egyptian people, by the Islamic scholars and by legal and constitutional experts … . Rejoice and rest assured that this people will not accept a text that does not reflect the true meaning of the Islamic shariah as a text to be implemented and as a platform. The people will not agree to anything else.”

Thus Egypt moves from military dictatorship toward one of the few things that may be as bad or worse: radical Muslim rule.

And there is not a great deal the United States can do about that. Embracing the Mubarak-style military leaders in Egypt who are trying to rein in Morsi is scarcely a good alternative, after all.

But one thing we most assuredly can do is take off our blinders. The Obama administration’s director of national intelligence, James Clapper, labeled the Muslim Brotherhood — of which Morsi is a member — a “largely secular” movement that has “eschewed violence.”

That is the same Muslim Brotherhood that was involved in the assassination of former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and whose highest-profile member wants no daylight between shariah law and his nation’s constitution.

Secular and nonviolent indeed.

The Egyptian people voted Morsi in. What is Obama supposed to do? Start another war to please you war-mongering conservatives?

There is no pleasing you right-wingers. If Obama does one thing, you get fussy. If he doesn't do it, you still get mad. You are like bratty, whiny children.

Easy Easy Easy...before you go downing so called right wingers on Obama, just remember how the left ambushed President Bush for going to the restroom during a meeting...well maybe not for that but I wouldn't be surprised. People are wondering why Mr. Obama supported this known to be radical regime so much. It will not help the situation in the Middle East for Egypt to become an All Out Allah nation for many reasons. But whatever the current administration does is okay with you because your position were bigger whiners and cry-babies in the last administration. I am sure you guys are still blaming everything on Bush...

You are off to a great start.

I love the way that you have rubbed the faces of the sheep ( sheep are dumb ) who are the enemies of Israel, claim the peaceful and non violent intentions of the Muslim faith and the Muslim Brotherhood, in the words of the heathen Mohammend Morsi.

Quotes are so effective simply because they can't be denied.

The Liberal mess media in this country will never do what you have done with this very effective article. This is a keeper, thanks.

Livin,

The current administration supported democracy in a free country. Please explain what is wrong with that?

I'm sure you still believe Bush is completely blameless.

Easy, Where is Obama now on the Syria issue? Why are there no tanks rolling through that country like they did in Lybia? He must not care if they are dying or if they are free. He could care less if Egypt was free or not. Actions speak louder than words.

FPSE,

Egypt is free. The people voted Morsi in.

He took a lot of flack for going into Lybia.

And Syria is still up in the air. I don't think we should have gone into Lybia. And I think we should stay out of Syria as well.

And how do you know what Obama cares or doesn't care about? What you have stated is baseless rhetoric.

July 2, 2012 at 11:31 a.m.

Because of his actions. As I stated.

Why do you people even waste your time conversing with easy? He is nothing but boil on the as of humanity who belongs to the 50% of the unintellectual fools in this country that are being deceived by obastard. He has nothing to do all day with his sorry life but eat twinkies all day and sit on his fat ass and whine on this site. He is one miserable pathetic excuse for a human if you can call him human.

Joneses,

You don't know what the word 'whine' means. Your posts are the epitome of a 'whine'.

"He has nothing to do all day with his sorry life but eat twinkies all day and sit on his fat ass and whine on this site."

This sounds exactly like you. I think this might be some psychological projecting on your part.

Your posts are hilarious though. It's hard to believe an adult could act so much like a child but you seem to do it everyday. Keep it up!

July 2, 2012 at 12:45 p.m.

Deleted again? Huh.

Anyway, the funny thing I see is that this side of the paper would be euphoric if somebody were adopting the Christian Dominionism version.

Besides, don't assume what they say in public is what they think in private. Diplomacy is about polite lies as much as anything else.

FPSE, because of Russia. What do you want Obama to do, start WW3 or something?

You could have learned about that if you were paying attention.

Like I said last week, joneses is a star in our office. Some people agree with an editorial, some of us disagree. But we all get a kick out of Joneses. As a co worker said,"well, its summer break, until school starts again, he has extra time to throw tantrums".

Please tell me how you will convince women and Christians in egypt that they are free under their new government. Do know anything at all about sharia?

"There is often debate about what exactly the First Amendment means, however, in an 1802 letter to the Danbury Baptists, Thomas Jefferson made clear that the purpose of the First Amendment was to establish a "wall of separation" between Church and State in order to protect individuals' right of conscience:

Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties......."

"In a letter to William Short Jefferson proclaimed that, "[t]he immaculate conception of Jesus, his deification, the creation of the world by him, his miraculous powers, his resurrection and visible ascension, his corporeal presence in the Eucharist, the Trinity; original sin, atonement, regeneration, election, orders of Hierarchy, etc., [were all] invented by ultra-Christian sects, unauthorized by a single word ever uttered by him."........"

"It will never be pretended that any persons employed in that service had interviews with the gods, or were in any degree under the influence of Heaven, more than those at work upon ships or houses, or laboring in merchandise or agriculture; it will forever be acknowledged that these governments were contrived merely by the use of reason and the senses...."

Thomas Jefferson coined the phrase, "separation of church and state". I do believe that is why the Texas Board of Education voted to deminish Jefferson's role in America's founding in their history books.

FPSE,

That has nothing to do with the vote of Morsi. The country rebelled. They kicked out Mubarak and voted their guy in. That is democracy. Blame Islam for Sharia law and how they treat women and Christians. If you don't like who they picked then that's your problem, not mine.

July 2, 2012 at 3:33 p.m.

HWNB, Ah, thanks for reminding me of Obama's comment to the old russian president about the european missle shield and the additional flexibility he would have in getting rid of it after this election. He's a traitor to us all. He is in league with foreign entities against the people of the United States.

Thanks again for reminding me.

I don't see much difference between sharia law and christian j'had biblical law. The biblical law these right wing nutters are trying to put in place will have all women living in fear of the same types of laws. They are all religious laws, just different religions, from the same books.

Please tell me how you will convince women in America that they are free under this dominionism government Christians are trying to weasel into our constitution in this country. Do know anything at all about Christianity?

JustOneWoman,

Bravo! You have expressed my sentiments about Christian dominionism in America exactly. Great post!!!

July 2, 2012 at 3:55 p.m.

FPSE, would you rather he be in league with a military-industrial complex that has been scamming hundreds of billions from the public for something which serves no purpose except to enrich the wallets of a few scam artists?

I think I know who the enemies of the citizens of the United States are, it's funny you don't.

But I'm sure you don't mind putting us on the brink of war, because you really care about the Syrians...just like you really care about so many others.

Oh wait, you don't. You'd rather just try to get us to oppose Obama, and never mind your own inconsistency.

July 2, 2012 at 3:59 p.m.

Funny that you apparently don't want to know about real Christian terrorists.

Or did you just forget about the doctors killed by allegedly pro-lifers in the name of their Christian beliefs?

JonRoss,

Have you ever heard of the Inquisition, the Crusades, the rape and murder of Native Americans, the witch trials, Catholic extermination camps in WW2, the Rwanda massacres, the rape and torture of thousands of Catholic boys and girls by priests and nuns, Eric Rudolph, and the list could go on forever.

Would you like to try again? Or do those things not count? Open your eyes. Christianity has been just as violent, ignorant and oppressive as Islam. Islamic violence is just now beginning to reach the coattails of Christian violence.

July 2, 2012 at 4:21 p.m.
Easy123 said...

JonRoss,

"easy besides you not knowing the historical background of most of those horrible events (and some that never happend)"

LOL! I know more about all of those things than you. Most Christians will deny these atrocities because it looks bad on them or they just know nothing about them. But they still happened. I wouldn't expect anything less from a Christian.

"you seem to think Islamic mass murder and torture of men, women and children is just fine."

Show me where I said that. Oh wait, it's a complete fabrication!

What is it about Conservatives that forces them to make up lies about people that oppose them? You and people like you live off misinformation and the spread of lies. And you will surely live to see your own downfall. You don't hate America. You hate knowledge, intelligence, science, reason, logic, truth and reality.

You're an idiot. There is no other way to put it. You're a liar as well.

July 2, 2012 at 4:43 p.m.

Actually the problem is JonRoss's utter indifference to Christian terrorists. Notice how he tries to distract us from them by saying more people were killed in the WTC?

He really can't bring himself to condemn killing abortion doctors.

"Please tell me how you will convince women and Christians in egypt that they are free under their new government."

I was dismayed to realize I had left gays out in the statement above and then I remembered they will all be dead or run out of the country so there won't be any explaining to be done for them. They will be killed democratically though so it will be o.k. Freedom and democracy!

I still haven't seen your explanation. I can't wait to see you try to pick this turd up by the clean end.

JOW, Are you saying Obama is a terrorist? He claims to be "Christian" after all. Terrible evil Christians.
