Another Barack Obama stumble in the South

  • photo
President Barack Obama is in Chicago for a NATO summit.

If the sense of alienation that many Southerners feel toward President Barack Obama wasn't already clear to the known universe, it became so on Tuesday night.

John Wolfe, a Chattanooga attorney operating on a shoestring budget in seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, took 42 percent of the vote in the Democratic primary in Arkansas, to Obama's 58 percent.

That is scarcely a glowing endorsement of a sitting president.

But Democratic primary voters in Kentucky struck an even more humiliating blow against Obama: He again got 58 percent of their votes -- but "uncommitted" got pretty much all the rest. And the embarrassment arguably was even more intense in the May 8 West Virginia primary, where a man serving time in a federal prison for extortion got 41 percent of the Democratic vote.

While all three states are highly likely to go Republican in the November general election anyway, the obvious lack of confidence that so many of their Democratic voters have for Obama doesn't bode well for the president elsewhere.

Take North Carolina, for instance, which will be the site of the Democratic convention this year. Recall that Obama won the general election vote there in 2008 -- but by only 0.4 percent.

As The Washington Post noted: "[T]here are lots and lots of rural, culturally conservative voters [in North Carolina] who have a fair amount in common with people in Arkansas and Kentucky. (The same goes on Southeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.) ... [Obama] doesn't have much of a margin for error in November in [North Carolina]."

Trouble is, he also doesn't have handfuls of North Carolinas, Ohios and Pennsylvanias that he can lose come November without being consigned to the one-term president bin.

As expected, Democratic leaders are downplaying the strong showing by Wolfe and by "uncommitted" in Arkansas and Kentucky. Party officials in Arkansas went so far as to declare, prior to the primary there, that Wolfe would be denied any delegates no matter how well he did.

"They're treating Obama like a king," Wolfe said in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette before the vote. "It's not an election. It's a coronation."

Take heart, Mr. Wolfe: If the negative views of Obama keep growing among Southern and rural voters, it may be neither one.

Keep wagging that dog. It doesn't hunt, it just shows you can't talk about anything actually valuable.

Do you know how many NON-Democrats voted in those elections? Do you know how many people even bothered to vote? Do you even know what it takes to register as a party member? No, and you don't care, because that would get in the way of your heckling and petty narrative.

All you're doing is playing theater games. Instead of substantive discussion, you waste time with this and show you don't have a real argument.

Maybe you could endorse the Iowa Republican Party platform while you're at it.

Southern and rural voters, when they have a moment, should take a good look at electoral projections for the 2012 presidential election., then, open a beverage of choice.

Hussein Obama will be reinstated as president and will still be ready to "rule" becuase the ignorant looters and parasites that feed off the hard working tax payer has been bought and paid for and will be bussed to the polls and told to vote for Hussein Obama by being promised he will take care of them. They will tell them again Hussein Obama will "put gas in their tanks and pay off their mortgages". Hussein Obama is depending on the ignorant voters of this country to reinstate him as no one with a shred of intelligence would vote for this fool who has more failures than any president ever. America has become a country where the president is being put in office by people who do not have the ability to distinguish the truth from lies. Therefore the stupid are deciding the fate of America and because of this America will be destroyed as we know it. America has become a nation where laziness and incompetence are rewarded.

May 24, 2012 at 6:08 a.m.

Happy, the point made is a valid one because in November it will not only be Democrats that vote either. America is sick of this President and his lack of leadership and his approval or disapproval ratings are proof of that.

My strong hunch is that these 3 embarrassing for Obamination primary votes got little play in the Lieberal mess media.

The fact that Demoncrat party officials made voters aware that Wolfe would receive no delegates no matter how well he did before the vote is very instructive. He still got 42% against a sitting president!

This along with the other 2 primary embarrassments for Obamination are good indicators of how unpopular Obamination is even with his own.

hilltop,

All our displeasure for Hussein Obama comes from Hussein convincing us he is out to destroy the American way of life where one is rewarded by hard work. He promotes profits and obtaining a better life for yourself as a bad thing. His hate speech pits gays against straights, blacks against whites, poor against wealthy. It is fools like you that think his hate speech is good for America. It is not.Hussein has done more to dicide this country than any president ever. Listen to him and hear what he is saying.

I didn't hear HWNB complaining when the DNC was robocalling to get Democrats to vote in the Republican primary in these states... Seems like all progressives, he only thinks things are fair when they go his way.

Apparently hate speech is anything Joneses doesn’t like or disagrees with. Facts are hate speech. That’s why he ignores them. Anything that smacks of reason or compassion or empathy is hate speech. That’s why he never displays them. Only what is in his agitated imagination is not hate speech. Please, spare us your laughable posts. Like all conservatives, each and everyone on them of course, FPSE thinks things are fair only when they go his way. He’s another one who never fails to get a guffaw from those with more than a gnat’s intelligence or common sense.

Whine on charivara... I bet as a kid, the other kids kept pouring your tinker toys out, didn't they?

joneses isn't the one who seems to be fixated with fairness. The complaint about fairness seems to be coming from your side. joneses also states in his most recent post, that hate speech is not good for America, your side thrives on it.

Like most liberals, (I won't say all, like you do, because I want my comments to be factual) you continue to get the facts all screwed up.

This says it all and accurately.

"The Obama campaign has essentially forfeited these states, choosing instead to put time and money into states where they actually have a chance.

Of course, that fact hasn't done anything to dilute the joy of Republicans who have been nothing short of ecstatic as divisions appear between Obama and Democrats in various states."

I was flabbergasted that the right side of the editorial page had anything positive to spin about Democrat John Wolfe, our local Don Quixote. John is always searching for windmills to battle and he is barred from seeking office in TN until he remits his unpaid qualifying fees from a past election. So, we were spared the comedy of his opposing the president in a state that Obama has no chance or hope of carrying.

Sharpen up the jousting lance, John. There are other windmills waiting.

Well considering it came from a site totally dedicated to democrats I say it holds about as much truth as a site totally dedicated to republicans (zero). There has been much proof however of the Acorn group helping Obama with fake voter ID's during the last election.

It is called google fool, you do know how to use it don't you? There are more links out there than idiots like you want to admit. Glad to see you cam out of your closet again troll.

I've seen plenty about PHONEY REGISTRATIONS(which ACORN themselves pointed out),but nothing to prove fake voter I.D.s. You're welcome to your fantasies though. BTW,why do you want to be so touchy, can't you respond to a legitimate question without name calling and insults? That only shows how insecure you are.

May 25, 2012 at 9:54 a.m.

LOL I am insecure in nothing. You go ahead and live your own fantasy world in not believing the truth. Acorn itself has admitted they violated registration laws but I guess they do not know what they are saying either and that you "think" you know more than they do.

That's a long stretch from "helping Obama with fake voter ID's"

But,whatever,,have a nice weekend.

May 25, 2012 at 2:53 p.m.

Well ok exactly who was Acorn helping then? Not to mention several of Obama's campaign members were part of Acorn. I know this must be hard be pull your delusion head out of the sand and just admit the truth. It amazes me how simple minded people are in thinking they "HAVE" to vote for someone or defend them no matter how bad they are just because of the letter in front of their name. In this case all those that want to support Obama just because of the "D" in front of his name, show what the "D" stands for.Dumb A$%

The GOP's ACORN 'Voter Fraud' Hoax

http://www.bradblog.com/?page_id=6500

. "I don't want everybody to vote. Elections are not won by a majority of people, they never have been from the beginning of our country and they are not now. As a matter of fact, our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down." (snip) ...... "And then, right on schedule, in the days prior to the 2008 election, the GOP again hauled out their bogus ACORN "voter fraud" scam, as the latest battle"

Let me get this straight.....They did the speeches about it, planned it, but they didn't follow through, and it just happened anyway?

Come on guys, the GOP wrote the play book, published it, then it happened. You don't have to see the bear to know it is in the tree.

May 25, 2012 at 3:30 p.m.

FlyingPurpleSheepleEater, you should have, if you were listening to me about it.

I guess you weren't there or didn't recognize the voice. But hey, when did you speak out against Operation Hillarity? Oh wait, you didn't, did you?

lovetheusaorleave, President Obama's approval ratings are at 47 percent. His disapproval rating is actually lower, and his are far higher than congress. And when compared to Mitt Romney, more people are positive about him in many respects.

Besides, what do you think the turnout will be? High or low? Even compared to the primary? Most Obama supporters had no reason to turnout, sorry, but they didn't. The government could save money skipping these beauty contests.

Justonewoman, they think Acorn was evil, so everything evil was done by Acorn.

They certainly won't work for actual turnout, push them hard enough, they'll admit they want universal sufferage repealed.

Love, you certainly have a funny attitude about Dems, especially for someone who feeds at the Big Government trough.

May 25, 2012 at 9:50 p.m.

Ace, sorry I went out of town for the weekend and could not respond to yet another one of your mindless remarks. It seems to me that looking back at the majority of your post you have a remarkable habit of only taking a few pieces of someones post and then try to turn them around to have something to criticize them over, which makes you look ridiculously insecure by the way. This case being one of many my first post stated I did not believe facts that were reported by either side that were done so by an affiliates only of that political party not just then Dems as you try say. But please keep living in your delusional world of thinking you are the all knowing, because unlike you or most of the idiots that follow that same blinded principle I do not vote for a party I vote for a person no matter what the party they may represent. I made a bad choice 4 years ago and will not again only hope most of America feels the same. I guess the trough remark must be a reminder of your childhood or just the lack of respect you obviously have about yourself. Good Day!!

May 28, 2012 at 8:25 p.m.

yeah, keep trying to get us to believe you voted for Obama.

May 28, 2012 at 8:40 p.m.

Well let me first say that I was not trying to get you or anyone else to believe anything, secondly I really do not care what you believe or wish to believe for I know what the truth is. It amazes the audacity or ignorance that some show have on here.

Hey Love, you have figured nothing out about slime that are on this site. They can't stand the truth, will always dispute facts, will never admit when they are wrong, have all the right answers but most importantly think their opinion is the only one that matters.
