The Compromise

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

So, the radical Republican-dominated House of Representatives(sic), so committed to solving the various crises in the country, so committed to compassionate rule that it decided to pass on extension of unemployment benefits for hundreds of thousands of people and refused to even approach taking up immigration reform; just decided that its 126 days of 'work' this year gives it the right to take a month to recoup. With unfinished work piled up these idiots won't even go back in session until mid January - and the calendar calls for only 113 days of "work" in 2014.

WTF!?

These cranks make $160,000.00 a year and only show up 126 days? They rant against funding food stamps in the Farm Bill which provides $4 per person a day for food, yet blithely fund millions of largess in subsidies to FARMERS - and TN Representative(sic) Steve Fincher, one of the most heavily subsidized "farmers" in Congress who has taken in $3.5 million of our money since 1999, campaigned against the Food Stamp program a month before Christmas quoting (you guessed it) the Bible, saying "The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat". Well, since he only 'worked' 126 days and made around $160,000, it appears that he made $1,200.00 per day and, in addition, got a $70,000.00 farm subsidy payment in 2012, approaching the salary of the President. And this doesn't count the under-the-table perks that flow like water in the Congress. Yet this professed 'Christian' who, like his worthless GOP colleagues, has proposed no jobs programs and rants against the unemployed, denies them a pittance for survival in a country where there are three applicants for every job offered.

THAT is the fertilizer that feeds the seeds of revolution to put it in terms a 'farmer' can understand. Hey Fincher, heckuva job! Now go choke on some fruitcake!

That is on its face, a fallacious and fraudulent statement, and is: BOGUS

Conversely, approx. 50% of Republicans support a constitutional amendment to establish Christianity as the official religion of the United States.

They may believe that making Christianity America's official religion is a positive thing, but I don't think anyone else should. Quite the contrary, it sounds like a frightening and VERY dangerous prospect. Very Saudi Arabian, or Afghanistan (ish).

A sprig of holly on the mantle and a candle to entice the Spring, in accord with the Pagan celebration of the Solstice, will do. No need to kill a tree for jesus or shop 'til we drop, or participate in any of the other rituals the religion of capitalism demands these days.

The simple passage of the earth around the Sun has given rise to all that we know and all that we will ever have and the tilt of its axis gives us the seasons to celebrate. It is the Sun that gives us trees but it is religion that has given us the notion that killing them is an appropriate mode of celebration. The rotting carcasses on the curb in January are adequate testament to the benefits religion can provide.

Not everyone in this nation believes in Christ.

And the fact is that this nation, although dominated by Christians, has a very diverse population, who deserve equal rights to their diverse beliefs, and this nation has established a reputation for not allowing a majority to overrule any minority.

You, I, and anyone else who believes in Christmas due to our beliefs is free to express it any way we see fit. I still wish everyone I encounter this time of year with a warm Christmas greeting, and so can anyone else.

I have a Christmas tree, have had the house decorated, have enjoyed watching all the Chrstmas movies, and have even went Christmas shopping, and I don't see any evidence that Christmas is under attack anywhere.

The trick to shutting con-man up is to admit that you are an atheist. He automatically discounts anything that atheists have to say. Or so he claims. But if you profess to be an open-minded Christian, like Al, who dares to place love and compassion above blind faith, obedience, and a vengeful, wrathful God, such as con-man adheres to, then he has a field day trying to prove how his hateful, judgmental brand of Christianity is the ONLY true Christianity. He seems to feel threatened by a system of beliefs where his excuse for judging others would be rendered null and void. Also, he just loves to show off his own righteousness, or what he thinks is righteousness. Poor connie. Lunatics are incapable of recognizing their own lunacy and self-righteous little pricks are incapable of recognizing their own self-righteousness.

Did the Republican’s actually cut food stamps? It sure looks like they only cut the rate of increase in the program were as the U.S. will spend 57% more for it in the next decade than we did in the last one. That’s $725 billion as verses $462 billion or a $263 billion increase.

“YOU BET...And we need to fight with all our might against efforts to increase the minimum wage!

By MIKE FLYNN

Obama and other supporters of mandated wage hikes spin a Dickensian landscape of millions of workers struggling to raise families on a minimum wage job. This is so separated from reality that it necessitates a look at who these workers actually are.

Myth 1: Hiking wages for those at the lowest rung of the job market will boost the economy.

In 2012, just 1.6 million employees were paid the minimum wage.

Myth 2: Minimum Wage Workers Are Poor

Just over 11% of workers who would gain from an increase live in poor households. Over 63% of the workers who would gain are second or third earners in families making well over the federal poverty line. 43% of workers who would benefit live in households with income over $50,000 a year. The simple truth is that most minimum wage workers are teens, young adults just starting in the labor force and spouses providing a second income to a household.

Myth 3: Minimum Wage Workers Are Supporting a Family

A recent study by Dr. Bradley Schiller, professor emeritus at American University, found that among families where an adult was earning the minimum wage, 94% had a spouse who was also employed, often far above the minimum wage. In almost half of these families, the spouse was earning over $40,000 a year.

Myth 4: A federally mandated wage hike is the only way minimum wage workers get a raise

Nearly two-thirds of all minimum wage earners receive a raise with the first 1-12 months on the job. This is consistent with what we anecdotally know about minimum wage jobs; they are "first jobs."

Myth 5: A mandated wage hike is the best way to improve income for minimum wage workers who are poor

In the 1970s, President Gerald Ford signed into law the Earned Income Tax Credit. The program is based on the negative income tax concept first developed by Milton Friedman.

The benefit of increasing the EITC, rather than a simple minimum wage hike, is that you can concentrate the benefits on those people politicians claim they want to help; low-income, poor workers struggling to raise a family.

If our goal is to help those few workers who are trying to raise a family on the minimum wage, a federally mandated increase may be the worst thing we can do.

Mr. Anthony Provancher:

you wrote to me:

"Not even the Holy Bible gives you the right to judge others the way you routinely do."

"NOT EVEN THE HOLY BIBLE"

Now you are talking out of both sides of your mouth. You now correctly call God's word the "holy Bible" but you do it out of ignorance for you obviously don't know the meaning of the word "holy."

Because your past blasphemous statements have denied that you regard the Bible as "holy." A few of your hate filled rants:

"My belief that the Bible is not the word of God in no manner is equal to holding any contempt for it."

"If you believe the Bible to be 100% accurate in all regards, then you by default believe God to be a mass-murderer."

"Face the truth for once in your life. God is a murderer and a mass-murderer at that...IF THE BIBLE IS ACCURATE."

"Your belief in the Bible as a literal work of God locks you into the belief that God is a mass-murder, whether you admit it or not. My belief that the Bible is not the word of God, and instead is the work of many men, frees me from that belief."

Now, I will give you ONE of the reasons why the Bible is called the "holy Bible." GOD IS HOLY Mr. Anthony Provancher. Holiness is His nature. God is sinless perfection. Furthermore, the Bible is holy God speaking to mankind. The Bible is God's revelation of Himself to mankind.

I once read that the phrases "Thus says the Lord," "God said," "and Jesus said" appear about 2,000 times in the Bible. God is speaking in the Bible!

ONE REASON WHY THE "HOLY BIBLE" IS CALLED HOLY IS BECAUSE A HOLY GOD IS SPEAKING.
