about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

Blackwater. I have no idea how many of my posts begin in this way or any other way. I'm not keeping track of it, are you?

What does all that stuff you list have to do with me?

I never said the GOP stands for "Gods own party". I don't believe the GOP stands for much these days, they're lost and seem to want to be like the Democrat Party. People did ride around on Dinosaurs, at least in some episodes of the Flintstones. I have no idea how old the earth is, and I don't care. Does it really matter? My belief in God isn't based on the age of the earth.

Regarding the snake handling, how is that more barbaric than abortion?

Nobody is forcing you libs to believe anything. You just don't like someone professing their faith, except if it's a Muslim, then you back off because you know if you criticize them you'll have your head handed to your family.

zabeldee Your problem is our country is moving away rapidly from your politics, so any political party that carries a near consensus of popular view is moving with it.

On one hand I'd prefer the GOP stay with you your paranoid politics because it helps the blues move us forward, but on the other we need some reasonable pressure for a reasonable, deliberative political process by an opposition party that at least can bring an informed and responsible argument as the counterweight to one party rule and also be committed to majority rule.

I don't know your age and don't really care, but in my day use of the word "knucklhead" had nothing to do with race. It described a person who was acting stupid although he/she might not have been stupid they were acting that way. In your case, after your comment concerning Obamacare being worse than the VietNam War where over 50,000 U.S. soldiers were killed in an unneccesary war and those returning were treated as lepers instead of heros it's obvious you aren't acting and the word "knucklehead" wouldn't apply to you.

Liberals know very little about Christianity or what constitutes a Christian. Most people who believe they are a Christian are not.

The vast majority of professing (not possessing) Christians don't read the Bible or even know the doctrines of Christianity.

These include:

The snake handlers, the charlatans on TV preaching wealth, health, and prosperity, speaking in tongues, raising the dead ( not one has been raised from the dead), miraculous healings on TV (not one), Homosexual "priests", "churches" which practice a false worship of lighting candles, chants, burning incense, worshipping angels, Mary, etc.. "Churches" that allow adulterers, Homosexuals, fornicators, drug addicts, non believers as members, cults who deny (all of them) the deity of Jesus Christ and other Christian doctrines such as the sinlessness of Jesus Christ, the virgin birth and the resurrection.

As many as these are, even more live by the false, damnable belief that they will go to heaven, inherit eternal life by being a good person such as this from Mr. Cook:

"But we also came to honor how Coots lived: a good man in a world so hungry for one."

"I wish I had said one thing more: Thank you for showing the world a good life."

""I've never heard nobody say a bad word about Jamie Coots," said one man"

And then there is the great multitude of false believers who think they can just throw the word "love" around having no idea what Biblical love is. This is especially true of those false believers and false churches who throw the word love around as they try to justify Homosexuality.

How insulting to call young people "knuckleheads". A "knucklehead" by definition is a stupid person. That's what the definition is. That's what it means. Both fit the Bible's definition of adultery.

You are absolutely right I am out of Z's league and glad to be so. As far as emotional you really should be careful how you throw that word around. You think because someone expresses an opinion somehow that makes them EMOTIONAL? Get a life. If I was really emotional you would know it. I take great pleasure in being as you say an Idealogue. You see I've lived long enough and seen enough that I don't have to get approval from someone like you or some of the other nutjobs on this forum to express an opinion. I'm not seeking approval most especially from someone like you or the other nut jobs

**If being an idealogue means the following then yes most definitely count me as one:

  1. I believe people have the right to worship as they see fit as long as they don't harm anyone else in the process and don't try to condemn others to hell that don't share their beliefs.

  2. If people feel the need to protect themselves, their loved ones or their homes then by all means if carrying a gun gives them that protection then go for it but be sure when that gun is pointed at someone IT IS NOT AT A KID WALKING THROUGH A NEIGHBORHOOD WHERE HIS FATHER LIVES WITH A BAG OF SKITTLES AND SOME PIG STALKS HIM AND THEN KILLS HIM OR SOME RABID RACIST PIG DECIDES HE DOESN'T LIKE THE MUSIC COMING OUT OF A BUNCH OF BLACK KIDS CAR SO HE DECIDES HE HAS THE RIGHT TO KILL THEM WHEN THEY DON'T TURN THE MUSIC DOWN.

  3. You don't like the UAW, fine by me but don't use extortion to keep other people from joining if they see fit to join one.

  4. You don't like President Obama, no problem for me. But dislike him because of his policies and not hide by some racist, rabid rumors concerning his birth, his religion, his family and his schooling. Then try to claim eveyone else is making something about race.

I could go on but there's no point because you have the right to your opinions just as I have the right to mine. You also have the right to think whatever you think you know about me when in reality you don't know jack (no pun intended).

You write as though the Catholic Church has a monopoly on members of the clergy being Homosexual. Clearly you don't read very much do you? Sorry but I've never attended a Mass where candles were worshipped. I must have gone to sleep that day. When I was a child all the Masses in those days were spoken in Latin and the only incense that was burned was the incense during a High Mass before Communion. Angel Worship-No, taught there were different types of Angels but never "worshipped" one. I thought the myths about Catholics "Worshipping Mary" were pretty much those of the ignorant of by-gone days. Evidently, I was wrong. Catholics do set aside the Month of May to say the Rosary in Honor of Mary but just so you know it's because she was the mother of Christ. Of course As a "Christian" you supposedly already know that.

I guess you mean discernment. It is available to you and everyone else. It is contained in God's word, the standard by which everyone will be judged.

You might "inquire" into God's word and discover for yourself

Here are a few passages to get you started:

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits . Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Matthew 7: 15-16 KJV

But now I have written unto you not to keep company , if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat . 1 Corinthians 5:11

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Corinthians 6:9-10 NAS

So what? Scores of people have been divorced and remarried prior to their salvation. Adultery is a forgivable sin just like every other sin.

This is the wonderful doctrine of the grace of God.

Google "the doctrine of the grace of God" and find out for yourself.

Furthermore, you don't seem to know that divorced unmarried people living together is adultery and that true Christians cannot accept them as members of a God ordained church.

Bite me once, I may complain

Break my flesh, I feel the pain

Watch my blood; I watch in vain.

Slide up high, past my thigh-

I let you enter because I am weak to your touch.

I use you like you use me; you’re my crutch.

Make me feel good everywhere.

Make me feel special; make me believe that you care.

Whether I asked for it or not

We’re just another eve to your plot

You have sucked us dry, made us feel dirty; unworthy

DEVIL, ever you cross our paths, yet still we long to handle you.

However, we would not knowingly allow you as a member when you practice one or more of the sins mentioned above."

OK Con, I think you're full of bull. If you are so proud of the beliefs of your church then, NAME YOUR CHURCH. You have decided that YOU know who is or is not a true Christian and how great your church is, so man up and name your church. Who knows, maybe you will get some recruits here. Is it not your responsibility as a Christian to attempt to bring people into the fold? You cry about people who put down religion so let us know where we can go to hear what a true Christian should be.

You say, "We want you to hear the word of God". Okay, then name your church.

Since none of you guys ever stay on-topic, might as well bring you the latest from the National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, NC: This was the 347th consecutive month that the world-wide average temperature exceeded the 20th century average.

We are dealing here with a case of simple confusion. On the one hand we have a temperature trend which has been essentially zero for at least 15 years. On the other hand, we have a temperature level which is highest since the Little Ice Age ended, around 1800 A.D. Note that 'level' and 'trend' are quite different concepts -- and even use different units. Level is measured in degrees C; trend is measured in deg C per decade. [This is a very general problem; for example, many people confuse electric energy with electric power; one is measured in joules or kilowatt-hours; the other is measured in kilowatts.]

Not by choice, but by compulsion. I write my thoughts out, like this, to no one in particular. The majority of my life is on paper; every day, every year for the past 10 years in a collection of diaries. My very first one, however, was a Lion King diary in which I would write about how I must marry Anthony Ventucci, a boy in my sister’s eighth grade class, and would sign my name “Karina Ventucci.” I was 7.

Most of the time I am thinking of ways in how I can be better, do better, feel better- whatever “better” really is. I spend the majority of my life in deep thought about everything. I think about how we all know were going to die, and yet that doesn’t seem to matter to any of us right now. How stupid and immature we all act, every one of us, when we focus on bullsh!t, when we are mean, and harbor anger. When we hurt people just to bring them down, when we put on fronts and play games with people we care most about – how completely pointless all that is, when we have a limited time here.

I think about the people I have loved- not just lovers, but friends too- and how it seems that the ones I have loved the most, are the ones who have caused me the most pain. They are my biggest muses of all. Sometimes I think there’s something terribly wrong with me that I don’t see, and that fear keeps me up at night.

Who knew you were such a follower of overly self conscious and conflicted 17 year old high school girls?

I believe Ted Cruz was speaking about ALL republicans when he said,

B.S. he was referring to the mush mouth establishment RINO’s.

“The single thing that republican (politicians) hate and fear the most is when they are forced to tell the truth. It makes their heads explode.”

You must love Senator Cruz as you have posted this several times. However let’s place it in a little perspective.

He was referring specifically, of course, to squishy Senate Republicans who tried to obfuscate how they voted on raising the debt ceiling last Wednesday. The Hill caught the transcript of Sen. Cruz’s remarks:

“In the 13 months I’ve been in the Senate it has become apparent to me the single thing that Republican politicians hate and fear the most, and that is when they’re forced to tell the truth. It makes their heads explode,” Cruz told radio host Mark Levin Thursday. Cruz tried to filibuster a vote in the Senate to raise the debt ceiling Wednesday, forcing the approval of 60 senators instead of a simple majority. That required Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to take a politically risky vote in favor of the increase.

“Make no mistake about it, this was their desired outcome,” Cruz said.“A lot of the Republicans wanted exactly what Barack Obama wanted, exactly what Nancy Pelosi wanted, exactly what Harry Reid wanted, which is to raise the debt ceiling, but they wanted to be able to tell what they view as their foolish, gullible constituents back home they didn’t do it.”

That internal debate spilled into open view on the Senate floor. A grim-faced McConnell stood next to the white-haired Cornyn, who quietly discussed a way forward with Murkowski, Collins, Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) and a handful of other senators. Tension filled the room as the vote was kept open for more than an hour. The clerks were informed not to announce the names of the senators who had voted, allowing the leaders to urge senators to switch their votes.

That makes for a clever little saying but it's total BS. The vast majority of Christians and other religionists are not necessarily striving to live on an ever higher moral plane but instead coast along on the mere belief that they are "saved" by believing in accordance with their particular dogma. In fact they seldom give any more thought to what constitutes a truly moral and principled life because they believe that they have found all the truth that they need to know and there is nothing more to be discussed or thought about it. There is really nothing moral about living on blind unquestioned faith.

Most atheists/agnostics however have spent years of soul searching and actually studying not only the Bible but many other religious "holy" books and scholarly works before coming to their reasoned beliefs and individual philosophy of life. And we see truth as something that is not stagnant or contained only within a church or a book but something that is living and breathing in each moment of each day of our lives.

In fact I posit that most atheists/agnostics are probably more spiritual than religionists. We see the sacred and divine in the good, bad, and ugly of life itself, not in some imagined hereafter of static perfection.

Yes, at the time Ted was referring to a secret vote to raise the debt limit (another republican trouncing by the President) when he made the above statement, but it's not the first time he's thrown fellow republican senators under the bus. He said if they stood with him they could have defunded Obamacare. Ironically, Teddy was lying when he said that but Tea Baggers cheered.

I find it hilarious that the best comeback to the Cruz quote tea baggers came up with was a variation on the theme, "I know you are but what am I?"

Wait. That's what you do most of the time! I call some bagger a whiner, and they respond, 'You're a whiner.' Or if their pea brains get jammed they default into name calling mode.

connie the point is this you do not have divine judgment and are not able to determine of someone is a Christian by the nature of their sins and exercising any judgment of another judges you..

Well you, myself and everyone else do not have divine judgment so thanks for stating the obvious. Perhaps you are confusing discernment with judgment.

You seriously need to read 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 again or again and again until you grasp the meaning. Just look above. You seem to not have any understanding of the duty of Christians to keep the church pure. It is regrettable that most churches do not discipline their unrepentant sinners.

Now, tell me why " exercising any judgment of another judges you.." is nothing but unscriptural nonsense.

I challenge you to back that assertion up with Scripture.

inquiringmind:

Simple question, does one have to believe, that is, practice the doctrines of Christianity contained in Scripture to be a Christian?

Please read carefully this passage. Notice the words about judging, the term wicked man, the term immoral people.

Should Christians make judgments, should Christians take actions against immoral people in their midst?

I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people; I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolaters, for then you would have to go out of the world. But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler—not even to eat with such a one. For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church? But those who are outside, God judges. Remove the wicked man from among yourselves. 1 Corinthians 5:9-12 NAS

If a congregation should find about a practicing Homosexual in their midst, what should they do?
