I grew up in the north woods of Maine and we always had guns in the house - everyone did, but no one worshipped them, used them as a penis extender or felt it made them into big tough guys, they were just part of the furniture. That doesn't seem to be the case today. If a read the comments on this post and what I see elsewhere, a great deal of paranoid fantasy seems to surround the whole gun culture - even the fact its called a "culture" gives the whole game away - that someone is going to save the day because he's packing a gun is simply juvenile fantasy; it's nothing more than the breakdown of civilized life. If everyone packs a gun - what next? shoot outs at the o.k. corral? As a people, we are regressing, led by such lunatics of the right as Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity and the NRA. How many more Binghamton's will it take before the lunacy of allowing people to buy assault rifles is throughly rejected?
What Rush doesn't get is that the capitalist system has utterly failed, yet again. Obama, just like FDR, is trying to save the system, but like FDR is being vilified by the very people who have the most to gain if he succeeds in getting the system back on track. Rush is as witless as all those robber barons who called FDR a "traitor to his class."
Welcome to Tennessee

Rush's hope
