The fine young man could have had the same assistance at Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe High School but their football team was 0-10 the previous season. Chip Baker either lied or was simply ignorant stating the fine young man would have been forced to attend Brainerd; he could have gone to Ooltewah, an excellent school. If those involved in this situation would have been honest from the get go about the reasons the fine young man ended up at Signal Mountain things would have gone much better.

I can't see why the Seahawks didn't trade down if they were going to get a guy that didn't seem to be a first rounder on anybody's list. Unless there were just no takers. Titans should have gone with one of the linemen that were picked just after their vertically challenged selection.

J-E-T-S

So much funny stuff on this. Mel Kiper with the classic line "It's obvious to me right now that the Jets just don't understand what the draft is all about (Jeff Lageman, 89). One of the fans, "Everybody said if Marino was around at that time they'd take Marino, obviously the Jets know something the people up here don't" (Ken O'Brien, 83); Random fan: OHHHH NOOOOO! (Roger Vick?, 87); the whole audience, "We want Sapp! (Kyle Brady, 95). Plus Giants fans laughing it up throughout and completely demoralized Jets fans. The one with his head in his hands at the end sums up the franchise.

Times have changed, and the event is not safe. The "stampeding" lately has been completely ignored but the police and the mayor sure know about it. I don't want to be in the middle of people being trampled and crushed because some idiots have started a stampede and riot. I've seen nothing that convinces me how moving to the river would have been offensive or racist. Would blacks have been barred from attending? There are thousands at Riverbend on R&B nights and I rarely see any causing a disturbance, just your normal few drunks that you'll see on every night except the religious night. If the Strut is designed for all people to come together why the need still to have it an area regarded historically as a black district?

Let's hope this guy doesn't make the Strut:

Police said a validated gang member who was due in court today to answer a first-degree murder charge has been involved in another gang shooting (Chattanoogan).

Witnesses said Demetrius Demond Bibbs, identified as a member of the Black P Stone Bloods, on Tuesday fired at Guy Wilkerson, who was in the side parking lot of the Boys and Girls Club on 4th Avenue.

Jesse, good for you, that's probably a wise decision. The Strut was never "free", except for those attending. Think about it.

Nuck said, "...especially for the already fortunate few at the top"

That sums up the liberal view. The ones at the top were fortunate. If that's true, those without success or even those with less success, were simply less fortunate. Succeeding in school, making sound choices had nothing to do with it.

What will be the response when there is a shooting, a riot or any such tragedy? "At least we brought everybody together"? This is not a safe event.

Nuck you must have been the last picked in gym class, the one that was hit most often in dodgeball. Sports are an important part of the educational process and nearly all students should be encouraged to participate on a varsity or junior varsity athletic team. Facilities cost money. Lack of money isn't the biggest problem in education, it's uncaring parents and uncaring students.
