To allow illegal immigrants the right to conduct business within a state implies the rights of citizenship and those rights that should only be afforded to citizens. To conduct business an illegal immigrant will need a drivers license and a social security card which can only be obtained by illegal activity. That illegal activity includes committing Identity Theft or random use of a social security number.
Note: the woman who applied for work at Target and was denied employment “She already worked there -- or rather, her Social Security number already worked there.
Follow-up investigation revealed the same Social Security number had been used to obtain work at 37 other employers, mostly by illegal immigrants trying to satisfy government requirements to get a job.”

Tennessee is already #1 in Taxes (Not Football)
Tennessee 7.00% 2.43% 9.43% 1
The only thing TN doesn't tax is sunshine (They haven't figured how to meter it)

I'm Not a conspiracy theorist. I want to reduce my energy bill, not increase it.
The EPB finally admitted that these meters are about hourly pricing. Since peak usage times are when you get up and return from work, you should expect an increase to your power bill.
The EPB and TVA have had remotely read, substation power meters for 20 years. They are read by a phone line and modem. You don't need a fiber optic network to read them.
Where did the EPB get the funds to invest in their phone, TV & high speed Internet?
"DePriest doesn’t think that "anybody at TVA has the cojones" to force it on consumers without their permission."
TVA currently bills utilities like EPB based on Peak and Off-Peak demand times. Why would TVA want to force a consumer to pay for peak times when they already recover those charges through normal TVA/EPB bills? That is double charging by TVA + EPB which would be illegal.
When EPB hourly pricing is initiated you can reduce your energy bill by changing your usage patterns. For an 8 to 5 work day you could take a hot shower at 5 AM and cook dinner after 9 PM. It's all about the money and EPB wants more money.
I could be wrong. Maybe The EPB will reduce my cost/KWH during off peak times? When my heat pump starts up at 2 AM it will cost me practically nothing! Yes, I believe in Santa Claus, too!
Quote:"They will allow the utility provider to better determine when peak times are and work to make sure that production rates can ebb and flow with peak demand."TVA cannot ebb/flow a coal fired steam plant or a Nuclear plant. They run at FULL POWER 24 X 7 or are SHUT DOWN. That's a FACT. I think the Kool Aid needs sugar.
The Smart Meter is just a tool which will allow the EPB to permit Time of Day
(TOD) Billing for residential customers. TVA charges the EPB more for
electricity used during on peak hours. On peak hours are usually 6 AM to 9 AM
and from 4 PM to 9 PM, M-F or before and after a normal work day. The bottom line
is that a normal residential customer can expect their electric bill to rise. A
homeowner could change their peak usage to off peak times. Maybe you could begin
cooking dinner after 9 and take that hot shower at 4 AM. (It will take some time
for the water heater to recover).
As a taxpayer you gave the EPB $111.7 million stimulus grant to install the
smart meters and raise your future TOD electric bill.
It's all about the money. 25,000 ratepayers didn't loose power over Labor Day is
just like the million jobs saved by the stimulus bill. Driving the
manure spreader is better than standing behind it.
Gigabit Internet Service for businesses in Chattanooga is great, but let’s look at the ratepayer implications. TVA wants to change their pricing schedule.
Article Quote:
“* Time-of-use pricing. EPB and other distributors installing "smart meters" may use this pricing approach to charge consumers different rates for electricity during different seasons and times of day to reflect the differing costs of generating more power based upon overall demand.”
Today TVA/EPB charges residential customers based on a flat rate regardless of Time of Day (TOD). When the EPB installs residential “smart meters”, it will allow EPB to initiate Time of Day rates for electric usage. That means your morning hot water shower and the evening meal is going to cost more because those are peak times. This Smart Meter will likely allow you to get on the high speed Internet and check your actual cost during those periods. Maybe we can alter that old schedule to a new TOD energy saver profile by taking that shower at 10AM and dinner at 9PM? Go Green!
The Stimulus has funded a new fiber communications link, complete with a new residential TOD electric meter. What does this mean? We funded the stimulus which funded the rise in our electric bill. That’s progress, but progress costs us money. How could the EPB justify fiber optics and new meters for all residential customers without TOD billing?
The EPB is Rich with the ratepayers money and Chattanooga government needs to spend it. Who financed this boondogle? The ratepayer of course. EPB will get gigabit internet and remote meters which will allow them to read your meter remotely. That way the EPB can contribute to the recession by laying off some meter reader who will have no job. The EPB has one of the highest rates in the TVA service area. This is more "government out of control".

I do agree with you so very much, but I do believe a judge will spank him with 6 months and a bracelet.
In another city of years past, a little elderly lady walked a downtown street after cashing her Social Security check. A young man tried to rob her. She opened her pocketbook, pulled a little 25 auto out and gave him a deadly dose in his belly, put the little auto back in her purse and walked away. There were witnesses from the other side of the street and the police only wanted to talk to her, but no one ever came forward. Street crime was down 85% for months after that incident.
Punish the employers for hiring the cheap labor, and allowing the American public to subsidize their business. The article said, "Illegal immigrants .... don't put themselves at risk of being deported because immigration laws are federal laws, but the fear still persists." Do we only enforce State Laws? Is murder theft, or manslaughter a state or federal law? Laws should be enforced and entering this country illegally is a crime. How many illegal criminals should we make legal citizens? Is 500,000, 25 million, 35 million or more enough?. What's the number?
Put the employers out of business, and for the illegal criminals; "The long, the short and the tall" Deport them all. If you don't like deportation, take away the job magnet and they will go home on their own.
