I for one think this might be a good start. And maybe we could get folks to turn off the TV, put down the cigarette, and go for a walk while eating the apple. And no, the apple may not be replaced with an apple pie from McDonalds. As a healthcare professional, I realize there are individuals who are being denied adequate coverage unfairly, but I see soooo many people who are placing an unneccessary strain on the system due to poor health choices. I have always said that if Americans would go out and walk for one hour each day, my business would decrease by fifty percent. I would gladly accept that so I could see the more needy ones who are not being seen because of inadequate coverage. This is not a Democrat or Republican problem! It is an American one!!!
One cannot fault Coach Shulman for feeling dissappointed. Even so I am proud of the Mocs and Couch Shulman for the effort they made to win against such a formidable opponent.
As a healthcare professional it is not only the drug reps and their action of pushing the newest and lasted high margin drug on the docs, but our tremendous abuse of unnessary testing required by the insurance companies that require MD to exhaust all conservitive measures that often don't work when a more invasive procedure is needed. For instance the total knee replacement surgery is often proceeded by an arthoscopic surgery which is largerly ineffective. This is an enourmous waste of consumer dollars. It provides very little relief and the total knee replacement is really what is needed. Physical therapy, while effective is some cases, is unneccesary if patients would just make some simple lifestyle changes and be smart about their activity. As a clinician I have always said that we could reduce our healthcare spending by one half if Americans would eat responsibly and exercise for 1 hour 3-4 times per week.
I must admit that it is nice to see the downtown grow but to say that it is because a much needed ministry like the Union Gospel Mission has moved on truly sickens me.

Nice words can’t shake Shulman’s gloom

Chattanooga: 3 of 5 county GOP legislators neutral on Wamp bid
Not really sure Mr. Wamp has thought this out very well. I don't believe he will have the backing that he will need.
Cleaveland: Tennesseans must rein in prescriptions

Chattanooga: Face-lift on Main

The Endorsement
Unfortunately, we will be stuck with the best worst for Chattanooga.
