This is awesome, but unfortunate for the police force. they have enough challenges trying to do their job with out good equipment and proper support, and don't need to be harassed by a dog. I am sure the officer just wanted to put the dog down. If that was my car, I would have.

I not so tired of the snow as I am of closed schools and long commutes because we cannot remove the snow faster than it falls.

I am happy about this, but that is do to my own personal situation. I pulled my kids out of public school and sent them to private, because 1) the teachers ran it, 2) we (the parents) were doing much of the critical teaching. I am not saying that we are not willing to do our part, but when we are teaching multiplication and the teacher's bonus question on the math test was the UT score? Come on! This might be one school, but I have talked to active principals who have teachers who are not effective. Now they have cause to engage them or get them out.

Thanks Humphrey. way to be a embassador for our city. No, this does not happen every day. Although this is sad to see, this single incident. This points back to the parents knowing what their children are into and who they are seeing. I'm not saying that parents can stop all bad situations, but I'm sure teachers or the child's friends could have helped stop this situation. I came from a city near Detroit and the items that made the headlines there were more for horror movies than just news. Episodes on "Cops".

Some of the main reasons I moved here was how safe and what a great a family environment Chattanooga truly is.

Going by where the cops were that day, the puddle of "something" on the pavement under where the bike laid on the ground, where the truck came to stop, it was right at the entrance to the Food Lion ... right where the expansion portion of the road ended. I drove by the spot apparently after the ambulance had left, but before the incident had been cleaned up. To Tnmomofmany, that would be great to have bike lanes. However, I think most of us would just appreciate pot holes being filled and sewer drains actually draining (another old issue we all have read about). Coincidentally, they recently widened Ashland Terrace - right where the accident happened. I think a bike lane would require most roads to be widened because they are currently just not designed for that additional cyclist traffic. I think it's a matter of sharing the road and paying attention to the way we drive ... and not being distracted while we drive.

Yeah - but what's this 3-foot rule I've been hearing about? I would assume that it means that the auto driver needs to leave 3 feet from the vehicle to the cyclist - which seems really, really close to me - probably too close for a cyclist.
